Lawyers seek answers from Tui and Hurghada hotel after 1-year-old Ariella Mann dies from E. coli-linked kidney condition
Ariella Mann was just 1 when a family holiday ended in an illness that later proved fatal, and her relatives are now pressing for explanations over what happened at a Hurghada resort and the package tour they booked. Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell, as described by The Independent, say they are seeking answers from Tui and the Jaz Makadi Aquaviva hotel after Ariella developed haemolytic uraemic syndrome, a serious kidney condition linked to E. coli, following a December 2022 trip to Egypt and died in January. [1]
Her mother, Jade Oakes, said Ariella became unwell during the holiday with fever, vomiting and diarrhoea, and was taken repeatedly to the hotel clinic but did not improve. [1] Oakes said she was “disgusted” that the family had not been told about earlier E. coli cases associated with the hotel before booking, adding: “Ariella was such a happy child, and it quickly became obvious ... If we’d known about the other cases, there’s no way I would have taken my child there.” [2]

The Guardian reported that the two-week, all-inclusive stay at the five-star Jaz Makadi Aquaviva had been booked through Tui, and said the company is under scrutiny over its safety protocols in the wake of the death. [2] Irwin Mitchell also said it represents the families of Chloe Crook and Arthur Broughton as they pursue similar questions about the resort and operator. [1]
